MEDICAL MISSION

BANGUED, ABRA, PHILIPPINES

MAY 9-19, 2009

Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club and the World Outreach Foundation Kansas City are organizing a medical mission to the Philippines May 9-19, 2009. The site is Bangued, Abra which is in the island of Luzon, around 250 miles north of Manila.

We will be working at the Abra Provincial Hospital, a government hospital. We will do surgeries, dental work and adult and pediatric clinics. Our Sight and Hearing Mobile Unit with the Candon City Lions Club will be driven to this mission and can accommodate outpatient surgeries, including cataract surgeries. Art therapy for the children in the Hospital is part of the program. We will have health promotion programs in the public schools. Our partner, the Philippine College of Surgeons will not only provide services but will also conduct seminars for the area doctors.

Mali Mission report

Medical Mission to Ouelessebougou, Mali

January 25th to February 3rd 2008

INTERIM REPORT

True to the world-wide scope of its mission, in January - February 2008, the World Outreach Foundation took its services to the African continent for the very first time.

A staff of 16 professional volunteers, mostly in the medical field and mostly from the Greater Kansas City area were joined by 9 others, also predominantly medical professionals, from the Mali Rising Foundation based in Salt Lake City. The mission’s journey started with a flight of more than 12 hours to Mali. Once in Mali, the volunteers worked hard from January 24 to February 4 to maximize the quantity and quality of medical services that they provided free of charge to the people of Ouelessebougou, a profoundly economically challenged village south of Bamako in southwestern Mali.

The US medical staff, working hand-in-hand with local physicians and nurses, served a total of 1,161 patients. The medical services provided included major and minor surgeries, EKGs, HIV testing, prescribing medication, clinical consultations and diagnoses. Perhaps the mission’s most obvious contributions were the 73 surgeries performed, which comprised correcting severe hernias and cystoceles, removing hugely swollen thyroids and cysts, and performing a hysterectomy as well as mastectomy.

Although the mission entailed a lot of hard work, it was deeply gratifying. It was profoundly rewarding to able to do so much good for people who otherwise would likely have found such medical care impossible to obtain. In addition, everyone enjoyed the people of Mali. The local medical staff was very helpful, and they and the patients and their families were extremely appreciative of the mission’s efforts. It also was obvious that members of the mission truly took the people of Mali into their hearts. For example, even after putting in a grueling day at the hospital, and despite the challenges of communicating with the French-speaking Malians, members of our team still found the time and energy to entertain the local children by playing with them.

FROM ASIA TO AFRICA 2008

The World Outreach Foundation KC develops alternative and effective ways of delivering health care to the needy in developing countries by:

· Bringing health care to remote areas by creating and supporting Mobile Health Units .

· Empowering local health professionals in host countries to take the initiative in caring for the indigents.

· Assisting in natural disasters with relief medical missions.

· Preventing diseases by promoting healthy habits and food supplementation using locally grown Moringa leaves which are high in proteins, vitamins and minerals.

“From Asia to Africa 2008” is our annual benefit to raise funds to support the mission of the World Outreach FoundationKC.

During the event, we will honor the Humanitarian Awardee Judy Overton, Community and Medical Mission leaders Lydia DyRagos (from the Philippines) and Ernie Rosas.

2007 ANNUAL REPORT

The year 2007 was a milestone year for the Foundation. We met our goal of delivering health care to the poor and have pioneered the use of a Mobile Heath Unit to deliver these needed services. We funded the Sight and Hearing Mobile Unit which was put into service in February, and numerous medical missions followed manned by volunteers from the Philippines and the United States.

The numbers of patients served skyrocketed this year, up from 4827 in 2006 to 18,825 in 2007. The value of professional services rendered that included surgical, medical and pediatric services amounts to $1,560.200.00. This amount excludes the services of other volunteers doing organizational work in missions.

We have a very close working relationship with the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club with whom we work together raising funds and organizing and executing our charitable works. Likewise, we work very closely with the Candon City Lions Club, our main partner in the Philippines. Both Clubs managed the Sight and Hearing Mobile Unit which was partly funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

We expanded our work with other groups with agreements for services. These partnerships include: Philippine College of Surgeons for Philippine medical missions, the Porac Foundation for the Moringa program, the Medical Missions Foundation (for medical mission in Samar, Philippines and more recently the Mali Rising Foundation in Utah (medical mission to Mali, West Africa). We have a great core of volunteers from the Philippines and particularly in the Philippines. The Mobile Unit has empowered the local Filipino professionals to carry out medical missions.

Our annual Barrio Fiesta in April is our main source of funds for our missions, and we enjoy the respect and support of our community, with assistance from friends from out of our area. Our community, particularly the artists donate significant works of art, services and gifts to the Auction. More than the cash donations we received, much more is donated to us by various sources in our community with medical supplies, medical equipment and medicines.

In 2007, with a limited budget of less than $ 125,000.00 we have managed to donate goods and services to the poor fifteen times that amount. We have a very small Endowment Fund which we hope to increase significantly over the next few years to ensure the continuance of our work in the future.
